Welcome to ComputerJourney.com!

You've made it! This website and its products are your chance to take your computer skills to the next level. At ComputerJourney.com we don't focus our education on those who are just getting started with computers. There are many resources already in existence that were created to help beginners get started. This site isn't dedicated to the computer guru's either. They know how to continue their education because they have reached the level of what we call "Power Users."

No, here at ComputerJourney.com we focus our efforts on the majority of people who use computers today: the average users. It is those average computer users who know how to use a computer but don't know how to use it in the most efficient ways possible. They are familiar with their operating system (whether it be Windows, OS X, or Linux), they know how to get around and do basic tasks, and they typically feel pretty content. That's usually where it stops, though.

At some point, the average user becomes frustrated with a given task that may arise. When that happens, they will usually turn to a Power User for help with the challenge facing them. The Power User could be a friend, a family member, or colleague, but either way the solution is attained using a third party. This website is designed to help the average user become a Power User themself so they won't have to turn to someone else for help.

We at ComputerJourney.com believe in the motto:

"Give a man a fish and he will eat for a day.
Teach him how to fish and he will eat for a lifetime."

If you ever get frustrated with your computer because:

  • It's running slowly
  • You don't know how to maintain it
  • It takes longer to get to your files and programs than you think it should
  • You can't find the information you are looking for on Google
  • You wish that you had the skills that your Power User assistants have

This site is where you begin your Journey to becoming a more capable user yourself.

And if you happen to be a Power User and you are frustrated with having to help others with common problems over and over again, point them to this site and its products to help them get started on the path toward independence.

It is our guarantee that you will learn a great deal from this website, the mailing list, and the products for sale. Give it a shot and you'll be amazed with where the journey will take you...

Invited to Teach Again

Posted on May 5th, 2008

After the success of my first college course based on Computer Zen: A Journey to Better Computing, I have been invited to teach the course again at West LA College. In addition, I have been asked to teach beginner and intermediate courses for Microsoft Word and Excel this summer. The schedule should be available online sometime near the end of this month. I will be teaching these courses at the end of June, throughout July, and at the beginning of August. Maybe I'll see some of you there!

A Computer Zen College Course

Posted on March 11, 2008

This last weekend marked the completion of Jason Karuza's experiment to teach a community college course based on his newly authored book: Computer Zen: A Journey to Better Computing. The course description can be found here on the West LA College Extension website. Jason wanted to teach this course to start spreading the word about his book, get some feedback based on his book's content, and see if he could truly help benefit the average computer users in his local community.

After each of the sessions for his course, Jason was treated to a great deal of appreciation from his attendees. Clearly this experiment was a success as these student surveys will show. Jason has indeed managed to compile together a great deal of information that the average user will find invaluable to mastering the frustrations that they face on a daily basis. As a result, Jason plans to teach the course again during the summer session to continue his efforts towards helping others becoming power users.
